How to create a 3D modelled corridor
1. Making the frame-
First of all, make two rectangles and put them like this.
Then, select an edge and press 'w' move the edge down to create a slope. Do this so it matches the photo below.
After that copy and paste the whole frame as many times as you want depending on how long you want your corridor.
Finally, create 8 flat squares and make them long enough to fit across all of your frames. There should be 2 slanted ones on each side as well as one big piece. There should also be a big one on the top and on the bottom.
2. Making the room-To make the room at the end of the corridor, you first need to make a box using the flat squares. Make the squares as big as you would like your room to be. When making the room, don't make the roof until last, as it makes it a lot easier to add objects into it.
Next, you need to add a window into the room. To do this, you need to right click and select faces, then all you do is hold shift and select the squares you want to delete. After some squares are selected in a window formation, press delete and the window will appear.
To make the room more detailed, add some cylinders in to make them look like pipes. In my corridor I added two large pipes into the room.
3. Making the floor-To make the floor, you need to create a flat square. It should be around half of the width of the corridor. Next, select faces, and cut out squares to make it look like this -
After you have made 1 floor panel, copy and paste them all along the floor of your corridor.
Also do the same for the room you made.
4. Adding lights to the corridor
In Maya, to add cameras, you have to click create, then click cameras. The light you will need to add in is an area light. Press 'W' and move the light to the top of one of your corridor frame. After that, copy and paste the lights so that there's one on every frame.
Also, add some lights onto the room you made.
5. Texturing
To texture an object, you have to click the rendering tab, and select the object you want to texture. Next click Lambert (Highlighted in the photo)
You can either colour the object in standard colours through the colour menu, or, if you want to texture an object with an image from the internet, click the chequer board next to the colour menu then select the file option.
6. Adding objects
Button- To make a button, you need to first make something for the button to go onto, for example, a metal platform. To first make a metal platform, you need to add two cubes into your scene. Make one a rectangle, and the other one into a triangle like when you made the frame by selecting the edge and pulling it down.To make the actual button, add a small cylinder and a cone. Select faces, and highlight half of the cone so that you delete the pointy part. Then put the cylinder inside the half deleted cone so that it fits smooth at the top, and you have your button.
Then put the two objects together and it should look like this, add this where you like in your corridor.
Console- To make a console, remake the metal platform in the button tutorial but make it wider.
Next, you need to add 3 screens onto the platform. Do this by making cubes and flattening them down so they look like screens. Make a larger one in the middle of the platform and two smaller ones either side.
Now, you need to add two keyboards to the console. To do this, make two flattened cubes like the previous steps, however this time, you need to place a flat panel on top of it and select faces to delete squares so it looks like a keyboard.
Do this on both sides.
Finally, you need to add a lever to your console. To do this, first make a cube. Press "r" and make it flatter but not 2D.
After that, click mesh tools, edge loop, and add 3 edge loops, one at the top and two at the sides.
Then click faces and delete the new square you made in the middle of the cube.
Move this into the middle of your console, and it will be complete.
Planet- To make the planet, add a sphere then make it large and move it to where you want. Also, from google images, save a planet texture. Next, whilst the sphere is selected, select rendering, then Lambert. Click the chequer board to the right of the colour slider and select file and locate the texture you got from google.
